The Denim Project
Boston Public Library: Central Library in Copley
On display now through June 26th 2025
Did you know that 80% of all textiles end up in
landfills? In 2023, the Guild launched its Denim Project to spotlight the combination of sustainability and fiber arts, particularly as American landfills process approximately 11.3 million tons of textile waste; globally, denim alone generates over 200 million tons of waste annually.
With the Denim Project, guild members created denim-centric, entirely-upcycled works to not only connect ourselves with one another but also to realize what is possible when we look beyond traditional textile sources into our closets, our cabinets, and our personal histories.

The Denim Project
At the Flint Memorial Library in North Reading
Did you know that 80% of all textiles end up in
landfills? Denim alone accounts for more than 200
million tons of waste a year. In an effort to
highlight this issue and to promote sustainability
within the art of quilting, our guild challenged itself
to make quilts using only upcycled materials with denim as a focus. Artists could choose any size or subject matter, but no new materials were to be used. This project was very rewarding and the quilts produced are beautiful works of art.
